James Arthur Longmate

March 23, 1949 until March 14, 2026

James Arthur Longmate

James Arthur Longmate, 76, of Bentonville, entered into the joy of the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 23, 1949, in Fayetteville to Arthur and Leola Longmate.

James was a man of deep faith, steady devotion, and boundless energy. He devoted his life to serving God and others, always putting ministry first and pouring his heart into every person he met. More than a pastor, James was a trusted friend, encourager, and spiritual guide to many. His passion was serving people and giving back to his community.

James answered the call to ministry early in life and faithfully served as a pastor for 51 years. He shepherded his congregations with compassion and a servant’s heart, remaining committed to preaching the Gospel and walking alongside people during life’s most meaningful and difficult moments. For James, ministry was not just his calling, it was his life’s purpose.

He also had a deep heart for missions. James faithfully supported and encouraged mission work, always eager to see the message of Christ shared beyond the walls of the church. His love for missions shaped the way he prayed, gave, and led others.

Outside of ministry, James was known for his remarkable energy and love of running. He completed one full marathon and fifteen half-marathons, often using his training and races as opportunities to build relationships and encourage others.

Above all, James loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband, dad, Boppy, brother, and uncle whose warm smile made everyone feel welcome.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Georgia Longmate; son Brad Longmate and wife Renae Longmate of Rogers, AR; 3 grandchildren, Shay Longmate and wife Lauren Hacala, Carson Longmate, and Londyn Longmate; sister Carolyn Hayes and nephew Joseph Hayes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Leola Longmate.
