Barbara Jean Erskine

Barbara Jean Erskine of Bella Vista, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Arkansas. She was born on Tuesday, July 21st, 1931 in Prescott, Arkansas to Robert Warren and Tommie Idell Horne (Martin).

Barbara grew up in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School. She married her husband James Erskine on Wednesday, February 14th, 1951 in Prescott. She and James spent many years travelling extensively all over the United States and parts of Canada before finally settling down in Northwest Arkansas. She was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church, serving in many different capacities.

Barbara loved to cook, sew, and loved to play games. In her later years, she learned to paint, and created many paintings, hanging them on her walls and giving them to family and friends. She was a loving wife and mother, and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years; James Edward Erskine, one daughter; Nancy Sharon Erskine, and her oldest sister; Elizabeth Juanita Hooker.

Barbara is survived by two children; Karen Jean Lanctot of Bella Vista, and Steven Randall Erskine (Debbie) of Lake Jackson, Texas, seven grandchildren; Matt Core (Shelley) of Nevada, Lisa Core of Nevada, Mina Core (Shannon) of Arkansas, Marc Core (Deidre) of California, Laura Nichols (Justin) of Texas, Peter Erskine (Monica) of Texas, and Micaela Dougan (Ryan) of Texas, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband, James, at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas in a private ceremony on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 at 10:3o a.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Bella Vista Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Bella Vista Baptist Church in her honor.
