Billie Sue Hughes

Billie Sue Hughes, age 87, passed away on Friday, December 15th 2023 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was born in St. Louis County, Missouri on September 26th 1936 to Henry W. and Beatrice M. Rankin (Reed).

She was a member of the Winslow Extension Club for 50 years. The members made items needed for children at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winslow.

Billie Sue and Ray raised cattle, chickens and grew tomatoes and other vegetables on their farm. Family members helped them on their farm. Their tomatoes were some of the best in the county. Ray was known to many as the “Mater” man.

Billie Sue was preceded in death by her parents Henry W. and Beatrice Rankin, her husband, Ray Hughes, son, Michael Hughes, sister, Helen Marie Cahill, brother, Henry Allen Rankin, and grandson, Cody Hughes.

She is survived by her son, Matthew Hughes, her sister Betty McGuire (James), granddaughters, Samantha Hughes, Cleopatra Hughes, grandsons, Casey Hughes, Matthew Hughes, special great-granddaughter Nicole Hughes, special great-grandson Jacob (Jake) Hughes; as well as many nieces and nephews, and close friends.

There will be a celebration of her life at the First Baptist Church of Winslow, Arkansas on Saturday, January 6th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., pastor Greg Dold officiating.
