James Richard Sutton
October 10, 1923 until January 1, 2024
Dr. James Richard (Dick) Sutton of Bella Vista, age 100, sadly and unexpectedly left us on Monday, January 1st 2024 at Mercy Hospital of Rogers after a fall at his home. He was born on Wednesday, October 10th 1923 in Fremont, Nebraska to James Alexander and Julia Teresa Sutton (Delaney).
James served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Air Force during Korea as a dentist on Okinawa. He reached the rank of Major before being honorably discharged from his service. Between his service in World War II and Korea, he graduated from Creighton Dental School in Omaha. After Korea, he returned to Nebraska where he was an orthodontist with clinics in eastern and central Nebraska. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan his entire life, not missing a game on television even at the age of 100.
He moved to Arkansas to be closer to family in 2008, and then moved in with his nephew and brother, Jim and Rolland Sutton, in Bella Vista in 2010 for the final years of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; James and Teresa, his brother; Rolland and sister; Susan Gocher.
James is survived by his six children; Michael Sutton (Alisa) of Omaha, Nebraska, James Sutton of New York City, Richard Sutton of Sedalia, Colorado, Mark Sutton (Colleen) of Naples, Florida, Robert Sutton of Eloy, Arizona, and Theresa Cook (David) of Loveland, Colorado, one sister-in-law; Mary Kay Sutton, three grandchildren; Thomas Covotsos (Cassandra), Ian Sutton, and Alisa Sutton, and one great-granddaughter; Willow Covotsos, and several nieces and nephews, with special thanks to James, Julie, and Jaqueline for the care they gave.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, January 12th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Bentonville, followed by inurnment at the Fayetteville National Cemetery.
