Dan Charles Asklund, 72, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024 at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Arkansas. Born on April 7, 1952, in Topeka, Kansas to Virginia “Sue” and Charles “Bud” Asklund, Dan lived a life full of love, dedication, and community service. The cornerstone of Dan's life was his deep and enduring love for his wife, Retha (Bratcher) Asklund, whom he married on July 20, 1974. Married 50 years, they created countless cherished memories together.

At the age of 15 months old, Dan and family moved to Ada, Oklahoma where his father joined the family retail business. He was a 1970 graduate of Ada High School and a 1974 graduate of East Central University. Dan was a well-known pillar in the Ada community as the owner and operator of Ada Men’s Store for 21 years. He held several other sales positions until he retired as an Extension Agent from the Oklahoma Alliance for Manufacturing Excellence in 2014. He also served as the President of the Downtown Merchants Association and was an active member of the Ada Chamber of Commerce. His dedication to service extended to many years with Rotary International where he held many officer positions and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. Dan also devoted his time to education as a member of the Latta Public School Board. As a reflection of his deep faith and commitment to his Lord and Savior, Dan served as a deacon of First Baptist Church Ada where he also dedicated 25 years to teaching Sunday School.

As a devoted father who committed himself to supporting his two daughters, Dan spent countless hours traveling across the country, proudly showcasing their club cattle. He was the president of the Oklahoma Maine-Anjou Association and founded and led devotionals with CYLO, the Christian Youth Livestock Organization.

The couple moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 2014 to be closer to their children and grandchildren and ensure that family remained at the heart of their lives. Dan was a cherished member of First Baptist Church Rogers and continued his service with Rotary International in Rogers. He enjoyed cheering on the NWA Naturals baseball team, attending numerous classic car shows, and supporting the St. Louis Cardinals. He also took great pride in restoring his prized 1969 Mustang, “Sally.”

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia “Sue” and Charles “Bud” Asklund. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Retha, of the home; two loving daughters, Mandy Bean and her husband Clint of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Missy Schubert and her husband Gary of Cave Springs, Arkansas; two sisters, Linda Robinett and her husband Mark of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Nancy Barrington and her husband Michael of Miami, Florida; and five adored grandchildren, Ainsley Bean, Grady Bean, Camden Bean, Hailey Schubert and Chelsey Schubert. Dan's life was a testament to his faith, love for his family, and commitment to his community. A jokester at heart, he will be remembered for his kindness, discipleship, generosity, and the joy he brought to those around him.
