Joyce Hawes, age 89, of Bentonville, Arkansas died Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Circle Of Life Hospice House located in Bentonville. She was born May 19, 1935 in Puyallup, Washington the daughter of Pearl Williams and Theodore Burdick.

She enjoyed time with friends and family, playing cards, and touring the country on the back of a Honda motorcycle. Joyce was a switchboard operator during the Korean War and the youngest female operator to be promoted to supervisor at the age of 19. After raising her four children, she opened a printing business in Reseda, California, earning several local and state small business awards over the years. She moved to Northwest Arkansas in 2022 from California by way of San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her mother, Pearl, father, Ted, and four siblings, Eldie, Richard, Betty, and Gerald.

Joyce is survived by: her children; Karen and John Browne, Kevin Hawes, Christopher Hawes, Jennifer and Mike Ball, and her best friend, Ed Sargema. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren; Katherine and Justin Higham, Christian and Kathryn Sanfilippo, Michael Browne and Samantha Moffitt, Daniel Browne, Mattie Ball, Franky Ball, and Karl Ball; as well as 3 great-grandchildren; Zoe Sanfilippo, Owen Sanfilippo, and William Higham.

A celebration of Joyce’s life is planned for later this year, specific date to be determined.
