Lt. Col. Edward Nathan Sidwell

Retired Lt. Col. Edward Nathan Sidwell, 89, of Garfield died Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Bradford House. He was born on May 29, 1934 in Sheridan, Illinois the son of Helen and Nathan Sidwell.

Ed graduated from Parks Air College in East St Louis Missouri and started his career with the Air Force. In 1980, Lt. Col. Sidwell retired from the Air Force as a Master Navigator after over 24 years of distinguished service. In 1968, Major Sidwell was stationed in South Vietnam with the Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service and completed 140 combat search and rescue missions. That others may live. Lt. Col. Sidwell earned 35 decorations and awards in his career including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Seven Air Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals and the 10,000 hour Flying Safety Award.

Edward was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and traveling throughout his life. He was a family man devoted to Dolores and all of their extended family.

Dad was a father, friend and confidant throughout our lives and we are forever grateful for his patience, humor and wisdom. He showed us how to be our best selves without even trying.

He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edward is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores Sidwell of the home; two sons, Paul Sidwell of Smartsville, California and his children, Briana, Edward, Ishvara, and Alia, and John Sidwell and his wife Teresa of Bentonville, Arkansas and their children, Kelly and her husband Jason, Lisa; one sister, Mary Sidwell of Somonauk, Illinois; and many loving friends and relatives.

Visitation will be Monday, November 27 from 5pm until 7pm at Epting Funeral Home Bentonville.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, November 28 at 10am at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Bentonville.
