Rebeccah Nan Knight Tromater

Rebeccah Nan Knight Tromater entered life eternal on July 10, 2026 at the Marie and John Carr Hospice Home in Bentonville, Arkansas. Rebeccah was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on August 12, 1940 to George William Knight and Helen Singleton Knight. Her family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she grew up and graduated from Baton Rouge High School. Becky frequently shared her fond memories of Baton Rouge, and family connections to southeast Louisiana (particularly Washington Parish) always held a warm place in her heart.

Rebeccah earned a bachelor’s degree at Louisiana State University in 1962. More importantly, there she met the love of her life—Raymond—while attending a fraternity party. They married in 1963, and Rebeccah was an Army wife, working while Raymond was overseas.

When Raymond was stationed in Washington DC, she followed him there. Travel was a lifelong passion for Rebeccah. During the first years of their marriage, Raymond and Rebeccah worked multiple jobs to save money for a year-long ramble across Europe. Their photos capture two young overs blissfully making memories. On the trip, they were joined by their first child, but that did not slow them down, as Rebeccah and Ray took their three daughters on exciting vacations all over North America and Europe.

Rebeccah’s last big trip was a Caribbean cruise in 2023; enroute she got to visit her family’s historic cabin preserved at the Washington Parish Fair’s Mile Branch Settlement.

Rebeccah was a devoted wife and mother, leaving an almost-finished master’s degree and potential career in social work to support her husband and daughters full-time. Whether it was in Alexandria, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; New York, NY; Kosciusko, MS; Ruston, LA; Shreveport, LA; or Hope, AR Rebeccah was always there tirelessly supporting her husband’s career and her daughters’ schooling, activities, and growth.

In almost every community where she lived, Rebeccah served to improve local life. In Shreveport, she led a local Girl Scout troop. When she retired to Hot Springs, she hosted AARP meetings and parties and served on the city beautification committee.

Most importantly, Rebeccah loved her LORD. She was a longtime Christ- believer, having warm memories and influences from youth summer camps at Glorietta and Ridgecrest. As an adult, she led an adult Sunday school class, assisted with the church library, taught children’s mission organizations, and was active in women’s missions societies like WMU and Circle. She also participated in several United Methodist Committee on Relief mission trips. In her last years with us as she knew her health was declining, she would express peace and confidence about her next phase.

Rebeccah was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dr. George William Knight, Jr. of Abilene, Texas, her daughter Britt-Marie Tromater Seymore of Little Rock, Arkansas, and her grandson Gabriel Anthony Seymore of Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition to her husband Raymond, survivors include two daughters Lisa (James) Philpot of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Nancy (Frank) Buercklin of Murphy, Texas as well as son-in-law Eric Seymore of Little Rock, Arkansas. Rebeccah is survived by 11 grandchildren: Stephanie (Quincy) Whitham, Robert (Jackie) Philpot, Elizabeth (Mike) Murphy, Alex Seymore, Brittany Seymore, Maria Seymore, Isabella Seymore, Joshua Buercklin, Lydia (Marcus) Cain, Samuel Buercklin, and Anna Kate Buercklin. Rebeccah is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Josephine Whitham, Caroline Whitham, and Katherine Murphy.

A memorial service was held July 15, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, Arkansas, with Rev. Allen Crum officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Highland Valley United Methodist Church of Little Rock ( HVUMC.org ) for the Methodist disaster relief UMCOR.

Interment will be in Enon, Louisiana.
